According to a new study, the average worker spends 60 to 80% of office Internet time performing tasks that have nothing to do with their jobs. It’s a new trend called “Cyberloafing.”
Older generations manage finances and such, while the younger generations are engaged in social networking.
And…the younger generations are especially guilty.
“We found that for young people, it was hard to get them to think that social networking was unacceptable behavior,” (Joseph) Ugrin observed. “Just having a policy in place did not change their attitudes or behavior at all. Even when they knew they were being monitored, they still did not care.”
Knowing how to get more work out of your staff without affecting office morale is a fine line to walk unless you understand that each of the three distinct workplace generations responds to different ways of being motivated.
